Cranbourne Racecourse is a major hub of horse racing in country Victoria and hosts a total of 22 meetings each year. Known as the home of Sunday racing, Cranbourne Racecourse is located 42 kilometres south-east of Melbourne’s CBD.

The Cranbourne races are operated by the Cranbourne Turf Club, which was originally established in 1867 when the track held its first two-day race meeting. Cranbourne Racecourse is currently the only track in Victoria to conduct all three codes of racing, including thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing.

One of the biggest lead-up races to the $6.2 million Melbourne Cup, the $200,000 Listed Cranbourne Cup, is also held at Cranbourne Racecourse in mid-October. The race, which is run under handicap conditions and over a distance of 2,025 metres, grants the winner with automatic entry into the Melbourne Cup field on the first Tuesday of November.
